Teen Inventor Secures Patent for Robotic Dog Petter
Kudos to client and teen inventor Cassidy Matwiyoff on securing a U.S. patent for her innovative dog back scratcher. We first reported on this innovation in 2022, noting the then-senior at the Academy of Our Lady of Peace high school in San Diego, California, had been working on her invention, called Bow Wow, for four years. The robotic device dispenses a treat to attract the dog and then uses sophisticated motion sensors to pet the dog with a robotic arm complete with motion-accurate fingers. This provides companionship to the pet while the owners are away.
Cassidy secured the patent, titled “Automatic Dog Back Scratcher System and Method of Doing Same” (Patent No. US 11,991,983 B2), with the assistance of Procopio IP Partner Steve Beuerle.
Cassidy will be a Junior at the University of Alabama in the fall, majoring in Political Science with a minor in Biology. After college she hopes to pursue an M.D., and Cassidy also aspires to launch and bring her product to market. She hopes to pitch to investors for funding in the future and have this device in many households.
