Silicon Valley Patent Prosecution Partner Miku Mehta has assumed the leadership of Procopio’s Intellectual Property team. Comprising nearly 40 attorneys in multiple offices in California and Washington, D.C., the firm’s IP team provides clients from around the globe with patent, trademark, copyright, trade secret, export control, and licensing and technology transactions legal support. Miku advises clients in the U.S. and Asia on intellectual property, patent prosecution and counseling, as well as trademarks and copyrights. He leads Procopio’s Asia Pacific practice and is a member of its Life Sciences and Energy sector practices.

Procopio’s IP attorneys bring technical degrees, scientific knowledge, and industry experience to their clients, with a proven track record of success with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, the International Trade Commission, U.S. Customs and Border Protection, and the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN). Their services include patent prosecution and counseling, trademarks and copyrights, trade secrets, and licensing and technology transactions. The IP team works closely with Procopio’s IP Litigation team to provide clients a full suite of IP legal services in the U.S. as well as worldwide through international legal networks such as Meritas and Law Exchange International.

One of the founders of Procopio’s Silicon Valley office, Miku’s practice focuses on the preparation and prosecution of patent applications, due diligence projects including preparation of opinions in the areas of patentability, validity, infringement and product clearance, and patent licensing. He has extensive experience in technology including computer software and hardware, networks, internet-related applications, environmental technologies, optics, mechanical engineering, business processes and medical devices, as well as registration and renewal of trademarks and counseling on export control matters. Miku earned his JD from the George Mason University School of Law and a BS in Systems Engineering and Environmental Sciences from the University of Virginia. For several years as a practicing U.S. patent attorney he was based in Japan.

Miku takes over the IP team from Partner Noel Gillespie, who will continue advising startups and emerging growth clients on strategic patent portfolio development and implementation. Noel has extensive experience working with telecommunications companies, especially wireless telecommunications companies; digital health, health information technology, and medical devices companies; semiconductor; and software and Internet companies. The firm’s IP practice has grown significantly in recent years, with Juristat naming Procopio one of the fastest-growing patent firms in the U.S. based on growth in applications.
