Overview
Seyoung Cheon advises U.S. and international companies across the patent life cycle, including patent prosecution and portfolio development, post-grant proceedings, licensing, due diligence and enforcement strategy. With a background in electrical engineering, she works with technologies including semiconductor memory and storage devices, image sensors, displays and light-emitting devices, wireless telecommunications, digital video processing, computer hardware and software, consumer electronics, and medical devices.
Fluent in Korean, Seyoung brings more than two decades of intellectual property experience spanning the United States and Korea. She practiced for more than nine years as a Korean Patent Attorney at leading law firms in Seoul, handling patent prosecution, invalidation proceedings and patent infringement matters. She routinely advises multinational and domestic companies on U.S. intellectual property matters and cross-border IP strategy. She is also dedicated to assisting innovative startups in expanding into the U.S. market, helping them build robust IP foundations to support their business growth.
- Developed and prosecuted U.S. and international patent portfolios involving semiconductor memory and storage devices, image sensors, displays and light-emitting devices, wireless telecommunications, digital video processing, medical devices and other electrical technologies.
- Conducted evaluations and claim mapping against 3GPP wireless communications and international video coding standards to identify potential standard-essential patents, evaluate portfolio strength, and support strategic valuation.
- Conducted technical and legal analyses in inter partes review and ex parte reexamination proceedings, including prior art analyses, claim construction issues and the development of invalidity and defense positions.
- Conducted patent portfolio due diligence and infringement and invalidity analyses in support of licensing negotiations and patent acquisitions.
- Developed patent litigation strategies, including non-infringement and invalidity positions and supporting claim charts.
- Evaluated patent landscapes in emerging technology sectors to identify opportunities for R&D and help clients navigate crowded or highly litigated areas.
