April 10, 2025 – Procopio Partner and Management Committee member Mindy Morton joined the Meritas Board of Directors at their Annual General Meeting in Mexico City, having been elected by the existing board to a three-year term. Mindy has served for six years as the Meritas representative from Procopio’s Silicon Valley office, as Procopio is the officially designated Meritas law firm for Silicon Valley. Also at the General Meeting, Mindy was named the 2025 Meritas Woman of the Year, recognizing her for exceptional achievements, skill, leadership, and integrity and inspiring future women leaders in the legal industry. Meritas is a premier global alliance of 175 independent business law firms throughout the world.
“Mindy Morton is an outstanding attorney, and also a phenomenal leader and mentor,” said Procopio Managing Partner Dennis Doucette. “Along with serving in many key leadership roles at Procopio, she is an intellectual thought leader valued for her legal inputs in numerous law organizations and actively promotes the advancement of female attorneys. Meritas will be well-served by having her on their Board of Directors, and they were wise in selecting her as their Woman of the Year.”
Mindy is an accomplished litigator on the bleeding edge of technology and intellectual property. She focuses on IP, data privacy, internet, and healthcare litigation, and helps companies from funded start-ups to public companies handle trade secret, privacy, copyright, trademark, patent, and complex commercial disputes. Mindy frequently assists with complex commercial litigation involving software contracts, intellectual property licenses, and non-compete agreements. In addition to serving on Procopio’s Management Committee, she leads both the firm’s Trade Secrets and Health Care practices and oversees Procopio’s annual certification as a Mansfield Rule Plus firm.
Mindy co-chairs the ABA Trade Secrets Committee Intellectual Property Section and serves on the Steering Committee for the Sedona Conference Working Group 12 on Trade Secrets. She was recently named to the Advisory Board for CITRIS, a research center at the University of California, Berkeley, focused on creating IT solutions that generate societal and economic benefits for everyone. Mindy is also an active mentor within the legal community and at Procopio. Some of her community mentoring includes co-chairing the ChIPs Next Gen Mock Pitch Committee; serving as a mentor and group leader in HiPower; and co-chairing UC Berkeley’s Women in Leadership Circle.
“As the longtime Meritas representative for Procopio’s Palo Alto, California, office, I value Meritas as an organization and understand the commitments and possibilities inherent in serving on its Board,” Mindy said. “I’ve come to appreciate what a tremendous resource Meritas is for attorneys and their clients, and I look forward to the opportunity to apply my experience and leadership skills to help the organization continue to grow and thrive. I’m also honored to have been selected as the 2025 Meritas Woman of the Year, as it demonstrates Meritas shares my commitment to advancing women in the practice of law.”
The Meritas Woman of the Year award was created by the Meritas Women’s Leadership Congress to further the network’s commitment to diversity and inclusion by creating a community that celebrates the path to leadership for member firm women lawyers. The Congress creates visibility, knowledge sharing, mentorship, and skills building to support women’s professional legal careers. It also promotes exchange among member firms to further diversity and inclusion in recruiting and retaining top talent, developing business, and elevating women leaders. All award submissions were reviewed, and a winner chosen, by a global panel of peers. Mindy is the second winner of the Meritas Woman of the Year.
Procopio is the official Meritas law firm for Silicon Valley and San Diego County, and Dennis Doucette previously served on Meritas’ Board for three years.
