Procopio LaunchPad Incubator Participant Secures Key Grant and R&D Opportunity
Kudos to Procopio LaunchPad participant and clean-energy technology developer Emission Free Generators (EFG) on securing key recognitions that will advance its growing business. EFG is one of four members of the 2024 cohort of Procopio’s LaunchPad startup incubator located at the law firm’s Del Mar Heights, California, office.
In the first victory of note, EFG competed against an impressive array of candidates to secure a Caltech Rocket Fund grant, designed to help innovators turn their technologies into commercial realities through financial support, entrepreneurial mentoring and education. Focused on cleantech and sustainability startups, Caltech Rocket Fund benefits include not just the equity-free grant but also opportunities to secure grants from other organizations as well as introductions to early-stage investors.
EFG has also been chosen by Southern California Gas (SoCalGas) to participate in its research development and demonstration program. This highly sought opportunity helps companies improve energy access, reduce environmental impact and achieve net zero greenhouse gas emissions.
“It’s clear that Procopio’s commitment to the startup community runs deep and our company has benefited tremendously,” EFG Founder and CEO Mark Collins said. “In the LaunchPad incubator we work side by side with attorneys who understand our industry and paths to success for emerging growth companies.”
Among the Procopio attorneys working with EFG are corporate law Partner Mike Kinkelaar and IP law partner Pattric Rawlins. Kinkelaar is a board member of Connect SD, and EFG will participate on September 24 in the Connect Innovation Day San Diego at Petco Park. EFG is a member of SCEIN through Cleantech San Diego. SCEIN is partnering on the event to showcase the “cleantech corridor.”
“Our benefits in LaunchPad include patent protection, access to experts, early funding and office space,” Collins added. “Our participation has been a game changer.”
EFG’s innovation is an emission-free generator that creates hydrogen-on-demand from a novel powder contained in a reusable fuel cartridge. The technology is safe, silent, portable and easy to operate for generating constant power indoors and out. EFG is a member of SCEIN through Cleantech San Diego. Learn more on their website.
