Procopio Partner Enrique Hernandez-Pulido Named a Top 50 Latino Leader of Influence
October 10, 2022: Procopio Partner and Management Committee member Enrique Hernandez-Pulido has been recognized by the San Diego Business Journal as a Top 50 Latino Leader of Influence. The highly competitive contest was co-sponsored by the San Diego County & Imperial County Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. The judges recognized Enrique for his leadership within Procopio and in San Diego County, with the reach of his influence extending into Latin America.
Along with his leadership position on Procopio’s Management Committee, Enrique also leads its Latin America practice and co-leads its Beer, Wine and Spirits practice. In his active legal practice he provides international tax planning and related international matters to a wide range of clients, particularly Mexican and U.S. cross-border matters. Based in Procopio’s San Diego office, he represents clients in the development of business transactions, worldwide investment and financing structures, planning for worldwide income and estate and inheritance taxes. He has been recognized since 2021 by Best Lawyers® for Tax Law.
Enrique’s recent leadership activities have been extensive, such as:
- Playing a critical leadership role in navigating Procopio during the COVID-19 pandemic, including financial stewardship, attorney recruitment, and the implementation of a new hybrid work policy.
- Forming a partnership between Procopio and the University of California San Diego (UCSD) School of Global Policy and Strategy, Center for U.S.-Mexican Studies to create a first-ever U.S. Tax Law program, a rigorous seven-day academic program in Spanish aimed at Latin American tax experts that quickly reached maximum capacity.
- Once again organizing and holding a conference for high-level executives with Latin American Family Offices at a Torrey Pines resort, providing a rigorous program of instruction on key areas of tax and other laws relevant to family office leaders.
Enrique worked for ten years in the Mexican government in the areas of tax, finance and administration, and was an associate attorney for a law firm in Mexico City. Before relocating to San Diego, he was on the faculty at Instituto Tecnológcio Autónomo de México in Mexico City teaching advanced tax courses in its School of Law.
He is a past chair of the of the International Law Section of the San Diego Bar Association and the International Law Section and of the International Tax Committee of the Tax Section of the California State Bar. He is a member of the council for the Center for U.S.-Mexican Studies of the University of California, San Diego (UCSD) and of the Practice Council for NYU’s School of Law’s LLM in International Tax.
Enrique has published articles on tax law and policy and has directed several tax related professional theses. He is a frequent speaker at international tax events through Latin America, Mexico and the U.S., including those organized by the International Fiscal Association (IFA), Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP), the Mexican Bar Association, the California Bar Association (now California Lawyers Association), the New York Bar Association, the Mexican Institute of Public Accountants, the Inter-American Association of Public Accountants and many other national and regional lawyer and CPA associations, among others. Enrique is a prolific writer of articles and essays on international tax topics and has been the subject of various media interviews in the U.S. and Mexico.
Enrique holds multiple degrees, including two MBAs (one earned in the U.S. and one in Mexico) and two law degrees (an LLD earned in Mexico and an LLM/ITP in International Taxation and Tax Policy from Harvard Law School).
