Senior HR Leader from World’s Largest Professional Services Organization Joins Procopio as Chief Human Resources Officer

July 16, 2024 (San Diego and Orange County) – A seasoned veteran of the world’s largest professional services organization has joined Procopio as its Chief Human Resources Officer. Brian Maxwell brings decades of leadership experience aligning HR strategy with evolving business objectives, guiding C-suite executives through disruptions and leadership transitions, and building a culture of inclusivity. Brian is based in Procopio’s Orange County office and will be a presence at all seven firm offices across the U.S., in particular the law firm’s downtown San Diego headquarters.

“We’re thrilled to welcome Brian Maxwell to our leadership team,” said Procopio Managing Partner John Alessio. “His experience guiding global talent management is second to none, and we also welcome Brian’s genuine warmth and commitment to others. I speak for all Management Committee members in saying we look forward to working alongside Brian and learning from him well into the future.”

As a former Managing Director for Deloitte, Brian was a member of a team of experienced talent professionals overseeing Deloitte’s global talent organization. Over his twenty-five years with the company he held a number of leadership titles, including Chief Talent Officer. Brian led the development of culture-building initiatives, serving as a coach, mentor, and executive champion for leadership training programs. He also built a strong leadership pipeline through targeted coaching and mentoring, while conducting global analyses of worldwide talent operations to identify opportunities for global consistency and potential implementation of global technology solutions. He holds a Senior Professional in Human Resources certificate from the HR Certification Institute, a Master of Education from Ohio University in Athens, Ohio, and a BS in Business Administration from Slippery Rock University in Slippery Rock, Pennsylvania.

“After twenty-five years in a professional services environment, I was ready to take what I’ve learned and share it with an organization that has strong leaders ready to make incremental, positive change with a focus on its people and culture,” Brian said. “I’ve found that opportunity with Procopio. During my interviews, I quickly came to appreciate that Procopio’s Management Committee wanted to implement leading talent strategies to benefit their attorneys and staff and that I was ideally suited to help. Procopio was so impressive to me because the leaders expressed the desire to move forward with a real focus on people.”

Brian assumes the HR leadership of a growing AmLaw 200 corporate, intellectual property and litigation law firm with offices in San Diego, Del Mar Heights, Orange County, Silicon Valley, Las Vegas, Scottsdale, and Washington, D.C. The largest law firm headquartered in San Diego, Procopio’s deep bench of nearly 200 seasoned and diverse attorneys offer practical legal solutions to clients around the world, with expanded reach through affiliations with the Meritas and LEI global law firm networks. The firm is always on the lookout to add more legal talent to its attorney ranks across the United States.
