Sandra L. Shippey Appointed to UCC Committee of the Business Law Section of the State Bar of California

San Diego, CA – The San Diego law firm of Procopio, Cory, Hargreaves & Savitch LLP is proud to announce that partner Sandra L. Shippey has been appointed to Uniform Commercial Code (UCC) Committee of the Business Law Section of the California State Bar.
Ms. Shippey was a member of the UCC Committee from 2001 through 2005, serving as Co-Vice Chair from 2003 to 2004 and as Co-Chair from 2004 to 2005. As a member of the UCC Committee, Ms. Shippey will primarily focus on further development of commercial law in California. Ms. Shippey and the UCC Committee will also work with other national organizations on issues that affect the UCC. In the past, committee members have been actively involved in the revisions to the California Commercial Code Divisions 1 (General Provisions), 2A (Personal Property Leases), 3 (Negotiable Instruments), 4 (Bank Deposits and Collections), 4A (Funds Transfers), 7 (Warehouse Receipts, Bills of Lading and Other Documents of Title), 8 (Investment Securities) and 9 (Secured Transactions), and have worked in conjunction with national committees and associations, such as the National Conference of Commissioners on Uniform State Laws (“NCCUSL”) and the Permanent Editorial Board to the UCC (the “PEB”), the American Law Institute, and the American Bar Association, studying proposed changes to the UCC and other commercial laws. The Committee reviews revisions to all of the Divisions of the UCC as they are proposed and drafts reports for the California legislature, taking positions on the proposed revisions and making recommendations as to adoption, rejection, or adoption with modifications.
Sandra Shippey is a partner at Procopio, where she serves on both the firm's Management and Diversity Committees. Ms. Shippey represents large financial institutions, regional lenders, manufacturing companies and all types of business entities. Her practice involves all types of traditional credit activities, asset-based financing, mezzanine financing and other commercial financing. She also negotiates and documents merger and acquisition transactions, loan workout agreements, venture capital financing and other commercial agreements.
Prior to joining Procopio, Ms. Shippey was, among other things, in-house legal counsel to NextWave Telecom Inc., general counsel for First Commercial Corporation and operations counsel for General Electric Capital Corporation. Ms. Shippey graduated from the University of Colorado in 1978 with a bachelor of science degree in political science. She earned her law degree, magna cum laude, from Boston University in 1982. Ms. Shippey has also been a licensed California real estate broker since 1995.
