San Diego attorney Thomas W. Turner Jr. had his term as managing partner of Procopio, Cory, Hargreaves & Savitch LLP extended through 2010 by a unanimous vote of the firm’s partners.

First elected as managing partner in 2001, Turner serves as the firm’s chief executive and chair of the firm’s management committee.

“Due in large part to Tom Turner’s leadership, the growth and success of Procopio comes at a time when law firm recruiting is extremely competitive,” said Larry Watanabe, founder of legal search firm Watanabe Nason LLC. “The market continues to change through mergers and acquisitions, and Procopio has benefited with a defined and clear market strategy. The firm continues to attract top partner level talent from major law firms and will continue to be a destination point for many fine lawyers.”

Under his leadership, Procopio has significantly expanded its practice capabilities with the recent creation of a national health care practice and the expansion of both its labor, employment and benefits practice and its intellectual property team. The number of attorneys working for the firm has doubled during his term and revenues have grown more than 130 percent.

Formerly the leader of the firm’s real estate team, Turner actively maintains his broad-based commercial real estate transactional practice, which includes office, industrial, technology, resort, health care, residential, retail and mixed-use projects, with clients such as the Corky McMillin Co., Scripps Health, SENTRE Partners and Time Warner Cable.

“I am deeply honored by the partnership’s confidence in my leadership,” Turner said. “Procopio has a continued commitment to both our clients and the community. My goal is to uphold this commitment while continuing the aggressive growth of our key practice areas in order to meet the demands of our clients, which is core to Procopio’s values. I love this place.”

Turner is a member of The Urban Land Institute and the Lawyers Club and serves on the Board of Directors of the National Association of Industrial and Office Properties and the National Conflict Resolution Center. He has also served as president of the San Diego League, Home Start and the San Diego County Taxpayers Association; volunteered at Kids Korps and as a youth sports coach; and is a recipient of the Wiley Manuel Award for Excellence in pro bono legal services.
