Program Overview

The presentation will explore the differences between patents, trademarks, copyrights and trade secrets, also know as intellectual property, and how to use them to protect your products. As experienced attorneys specializing in national and worldwide protection, Kathleen Pasulka-Brown and Lisel Ferguson of Procopio, Cory, Hargreaves & Savitch LLP have the tools to protect your brand, reputation, product design and Web site.
 
They will introduce proven methods for product registration and enforcement. The discussion will include case studies relevant to the action sports industry.

About the Presenters:

Kathleen Pasulka-Brown has extensive international experience in the practice of patent, trademark and copyright law. Her practice encompasses U.S. and foreign trademark opposition and cancellation proceedings and infringement matters, and patent, trademark and copyright litigation. She has in-depth expertise in a broad range of sectors including financial services, food and beverages, consumer products, transportation systems, fitness equipment, technology and biotech. Ms. Pasulka-Brown provides strategic product portfolio management for clients including worldwide trademark monitoring to identify conflicting applications and potential counterfeiting and infringement, identification of the potential financial impact and then prioritizing appropriate enforcement actions. She is registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office and is admitted to the State Bar of California as well as many federal district and appellate courts.

 
Lisel Ferguson’s practice focuses on copyright, trademark, patent prosecution and intellectual property litigation. She is admitted to practice before all the Courts in the State of California, the US District Court for the Northern District, Central District and Southern District, as well as Federal Circuit Court. Ms. Ferguson is also admitted to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office. Prior to practicing law, Ms. Ferguson spent over five years working full time in the professional fields of science and biology. She worked for Scripps Institute of Oceanography, UCSD and an International Environmental Group where she assisted with numerous professorial level and Ph.D. research projects in addition to co-authoring scientific journal articles.
