Mr. Tyrell is a litigation attorney with experience in business disputes relating to corporate governance, partnerships and other fiduciary relationships, real estate, contracts, unfair competition, false claims (qui tam), employment and intellectual property. His practice also includes counseling and defending government officials and municipalities with regard to conflicts of interest and statutory compliance issues.

Representative Matters
  • Obtained a trial verdict of more than $8 million in a complex breach of fiduciary duty/breach of contract case involving abuses by corporate directors and majority shareholders in connection with real estate development projects
  • Prevailed at trial as lead counsel in an unfair competition (Bus. & Prof. Code ¡ì 17200) action on behalf of an Internet marketing firm against a principal competitor
  • Obtained a defense verdict on behalf of a real estate developer against breach of contract/fiduciary duty claims
  • Assisted in successful representation and defense of the City of San Diego resulting in the renegotiation of the San Diego Chargers lease of Qualcomm Stadium
  • Representation of public companies in contract/fraud actions arising from the development or distribution of cutting-edge technologies

Education, Distinctions & Community Involvement

Mr. Tyrell earned a bachelor of arts degree in political science from The Johns Hopkins University in 1993. He received his law degree from the University of Virginia School of Law in 1997, where he was on the managing board of the Journal of Law and Politics and authored "The Lesson of California's Prop. 211," 13 Journal of Law & Politics 965 (Fall 1997). Mr. Tyrell has been admitted to practice law in California since 1997 and is admitted to practice before the United States District Courts for the Southern and Central Districts of California. His memberships include the American Bar Association and the San Diego County Bar Association where he co-chairs the Financial Professional Liaison Committee.

Mr. Tyrell is active in the San Diego community and has been involved as a volunteer with numerous local events, including the 1998 and 2003 Super Bowls and the ESPN X-Games. He is currently Chairman of San Diego's Father's Day Council, which presents the San Diego Father of the Year Awards to raise money for the American Diabetes Association. He is also Chair of the Liaison Committee of the Association for Financial Professionals.

In 2005, the Combined Health Agencies honored Mr. Tyrell with a Volunteer of the Year Award for his volunteer efforts with the San Diego chapter of the American Diabetes Association and in 2004, he was named to San Diego's "40 Under Forty" honor roll by San Diego Metropolitan.
