Mr. Rawlins is the head of the firm's intellectual property team. His practice encompasses all aspects of intellectual property law. Mr. Rawlins has significant experience with patent litigation matters representing both plaintiffs and defendants. Additionally, he is experienced in domestic and international patent and trademark prosecution, copyright prosecution, licensing, trade secret protection, and client counseling relating to intellectual property procurement strategies and licensing programs. Mr. Rawlins transactional practice is focused primarily in the software related arts and he has particular experience with distributed software systems, operating systems, wired and wireless network communication and routing protocols, network architecture and infrastructure, and software simulation environments and control systems. Mr. Rawlins additionally prepares legal opinions relating to intellectual property matters and conducts due diligence inquiries related to intellectual property transactions.
Prior to attending law school, Mr. Rawlins spent five years working in the software industry as a network support engineer and software product design engineer, gaining particular experience in heterogeneous network architecture, distributed software application design, and application interface design.
Prior to joining Procopio, he was an attorney with a large boutique intellectual property law firm. Mr. Rawlins is a contributing author to the treatise "Intellectual Property Law in Cyberspace" on the subject of trade secrets. He currently co-chairs the San Diego Telecom Council's Wireless Content and Applications SIG and is a member of the American Intellectual Property Law Association, the San Diego Intellectual Property Law Association, and the San Diego Software Industry Council. Mr. Rawlins is a member of the California State Bar and is a registered patent attorney with the United States Patent and Trademark Office. Mr. Rawlins is also licensed to practice before the Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit and the US District Courts for the Central and Southern Districts of California and the Northern District of Illinois.

Mr. Rawlins received his Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science, with high scholarship, from Oregon State University. Mr. Rawlins received his Juris Doctor, cum laude, from California Western School of Law.
Mr. Rawlins is a member of the Steering Committees for Liam’s Fund and CommNexus’ Wireless Content and Applications SIG. He is also a member of the Patent Committee of the Intellectual Property Law Section, State Bar of California.
