Mary Jo Wiggins practiced bankruptcy law and commercial litigation with the law firm of Ice, Miller, Donadio & Ryan in Indianapolis, Indiana from 1987 to 1990. She joined the faculty of the University Of San Diego School Of Law in 1990 and was granted tenure as Professor of Law in 1995. From 1992 to 1995, she served as the Reporter for the Ninth Circuit Judicial Council's Committee for Review of Local Bankruptcy Rules of Procedure. In 1998, she was appointed by U.S. Supreme Court Justice William H. Rehnquist to the United States Judicial Conference Advisory Committee on the Federal Rules of Bankruptcy where she served two consecutive terms. She is the author of numerous articles on bankruptcy, commercial law, and debtor-creditor law and a frequent speaker at national and international conferences. She is a contributing author to Collier on Bankruptcy, the leading scholarly treatise in the field of bankruptcy law. In 2004, she was appointed to the Editorial Board of the American Bankruptcy Institute Law Review and to the Insolvency Law Committee of the State Bar of California.
Education, Distinctions & Community Involvement
Mary Jo Wiggins received her undergraduate degree with highest departmental honors from Smith College in Northampton, Massachusetts. She received her law degree from the University Of Michigan Law School where she was notes editor of the Michigan Law Review.
In 1995, she was named a "Woman of Vision in The Law" by the San Diego Chapter of the League of Women Voters.
