Ms. Valdez practices in the area of business reorganization, creditors' rights, insolvency and bankruptcy. She represents creditors, creditors' committees and debtors-in-possession in chapter 11 business reorganizations, and creditors and bankruptcy trustees in both chapter 7 and chapter 11 cases. Ms. Valdez also emphasizes the representation of borrowers and lenders in secured transactions, lease transactions and in the restructuring and workout of commercial loans, purchasers of assets out of bankruptcy proceedings, and creditors in commercial litigation matters. Prior to joining Procopio, Ms. Valdez was an attorney with Hovey & Kirby located in San Diego, CA. Ms. Valdez has lived and worked in London, Vienna and Brussels.

Education, Distinctions & Community Involvement
Ms. Valdez was born and raised in the United Kingdom. She graduated from the University of California at Berkeley, summa cum laude, in 1991 with a bachelor of arts in political science. She is a member of Phi Beta Kappa. She received her law degree from the University of California at Berkeley (Boalt Hall) in 1994, where she was awarded a Moot Court Commendation for Excellence in Advocacy. She was also a director of the Moot Court Board, served as executive editor of the Ecology Law Journal and taught legal research and writing to first and second year law students.
Ms. Valdez is the past president of the San Diego Bankruptcy Forum, and is a former director of the California Bankruptcy Forum, in which capacity she served as Education Co-chair for its 2003 annual conference. She was formerly a director of the Women's Insolvency Network of San Diego and served as the former Chair of the Insolvency Law Committee of the State Bar of California. She is has just completed a term as a Lawyer Representative for the Southern District of California to the Ninth Circuit Judicial Conference, in which capacity she made bankruptcy-related presentations to the Federal District Court Judges for the Southern District of California and to the Chief Bankruptcy Judges of the Ninth Circuit. She is currently serving as Chair of the San Diego Network of the International Women's Insolvency and Restructuring Confederation and as Bankruptcy Liaison for the San Diego Chapter of the Federal Bar Association. Ms. Valdez frequently lectures at seminars on bankruptcy issues and creditors' rights. She is a member of the American Bankruptcy Institute, the San Diego Bankruptcy Forum, the California Bankruptcy Forum, the International Women's Insolvency and Restructuring Confederation, the Association of American Business Trial Lawyers, the Louis M. Welsh American Inns of Court, the San Diego Chapter of the Risk Management Association, and the American, Federal and San Diego County Bar Associations. She is a former director of the British American Business Council of San Diego.
