A passion for making "music worth seeing" has helped San Diego Opera rise from a small regional company to one of the top eight opera companies in the United States, bringing the world's finest voices to San Diego to produce exceptional opera. San Diego Opera's artistic product, community outreach and sound management have won resounding applause from the California Arts Council, the City of San Diego Commission for Arts and Culture, and the prestigious James Irvine Foundation.

Producing world-class opera requires extensive talent. Productions such as The Barber of Seville, Lucia di Lammermoor and Carmen bring renowned singers, conductors, directors and designers from around the world to San Diego Opera, teaming them with upwards of 650 local designers, crew and chorus members. Procopio guides San Diego Opera through the legal complexities of working with such a large multinational labor force, including successful negotiations with seven labor unions representing more than 600 employees.
